
Do you love Chinese food but wish it were slightly healthier? I did too! That’s why I made this grain-free, paleo healthy General Tso’s Chicken. In just a short time, you’ll have the taste of take out right from your stove top! I used Bob’s Red Mill Paleo flour for this recipe. If you can’t find it, subbing 1/3 cup tapioca starch or cassava flour should work fine.
Healthy General Tso’s Chicken
Enjoy the flavor of your favorite takeout with healthy, wholesome ingredients! This dish is grain free and gluten free without sacrificing taste!
Ingredients
For the Chicken
- 1/3 cup paleo flour *may sub cassava flour or tapioca starch
- 3 chicken breasts cubed
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 inch fresh ginger
- 1 tsp chili pepper flakes
For the Sauce
- 3 tbsp rice vinegar
- 3 tbsp coconut aminos can use soy sauce if not Paleo
- 1 tbsp orange juice
- 3 tbsp coconut sugar
- 2 tsp hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp paleo flour
- 1/2 tsp sesame oi
- 1/4 cup water
Optional
- 2 tbsp chopped scallions
- 2 tsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- To start, cube chicken breasts into 1 inch pieces, combine with flour in plastic bag and shake until evenly coated, set aside
- In a clean bowl, combine ingredients for sauce and whisk together
- Heat skillet on medium low then sautee garlic, ginger and chili pepper flakes about 1-2 minutes
- In the same pan, add chicken and saute on medium until golden-brown, mixing chicken around in pan (about 7-10 minutes)
- Next, pour sauce over chicken and mix until chicken is evenly coated (about 1-2 minutes)
- Remove from skillet and top with chopped scallions or sesame seeds (optional)
- Enjoy immediately! Goes great with a side of brown or cauliflower rice and steamed broccoli
